Living a Real Family Life with Other BelieversI attended college in southern California in 1995. I graduated four years later with my B.A. degree in Cognitive Psychology at the University of California in Irvine and continued to work in a related field as a behavioral therapist. I went through college enjoying the typical amenities of college life. I was accepted into the sports medicine program, made many new friends, and was invited to many exclusive parties. I was living the life. The epitome of my social career was established and my grades were good, but something didn't feel right. I was not fully satisfied. As a Christian, my relationship with the Lord had taken a back seat and it was just incubating in the depths of my being until there was a realization that my personal time with the Lord needed to be recovered. As I look back on my college life, I cultivated a personal relationship with the Lord with the help of brothers, sisters, and families meeting with the local church. I was constantly struggling to live the life that was so attractive to me, yet the Lord was still calling me to spend some time praying to Him, singing to Him, or even reading the Bible. There was an inward battle between what I wanted and what God wanted. I wanted my spiritual life to grow, but I needed help. A big factor in my spiritual life was the families and believers meeting with the local churches. They helped care for me in a sweet and practical way. I felt the most cared for by the families. I was a student away from my parents and family. They treated me like their own daughter and were genuine and loving in their fellowship and care. Whenever I had problems I would go to certain families and talk or just hang out. I love hanging out in the families' homes, whether it was to eat, watch TV, or just being with them. It felt so sweet and normal. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families in Irvine who took care of me throughout my college years. Without the families and believers meeting with the local church, I really would not be where I am today, which is a Christian loving the Lord and pursuing Him day by day. Eileen Chu | Back to List |
